This page is about music discovery.
Type a band's name and we'll show you new bands we think you may like.
So... let's hear them! By clicking on each result you get instant access to youTube music videos for those artists.
That's it: two steps and you are hearing (and watching) new recommended artists.
Typing a band name into the search box located in the main page or at the top of any of the
other pages will take you to last.fm and musictrails recommendations based on that band.
Last.fm recommends new music based on the taste of people who also listen to the band you've chosen.
Musictrails uses a "six degrees of separation" method to recommend bands that are related to the one you
chose because they have a member in common, one collaborated on the other's album, etc.
But this page is not only about music recommendations.
By signing in with your last.fm username, advanced dynamic tools
for exploring your data will be available to you.
The tool I like the most is the hyperbolic tree.
A Hyperbolic Tree is a "focus + context" technique used for displaying large amount of data in a simple manner.
This is a quite interesting way of seeing connections between artists, as you can browse
through bands and artists creating paths (or trails) of music recommendations.
You can visit the canvas JavaScript Hyperbolic Tree page
here.
You can also organize your last.fm data in a dynamic way. This way you get to see the information shown by last.fm but you can also display this data in a more semantically meaningful way. This page uses SQLScript's JavaScript library to dynamically query your results.
Other tools involve JavaScript canvas charts, and others you can get to know by signing in. Enjoy!! :)
